SO.

That cat-sitting thing I was supposed to be doing by spending the next 3 days at a friend's house?

Well, they went through with their vacation...

But they left their house with a note about a sewage leak, and how i'm not supposed to spend the night there, and THEY LEFT THEIR CATS IN THE HOUSE.

It's easily $5 in gas to drive back and forth everyday. ARGH.

i will be having words with Kristine.

Is it safe for the cats to be in a house with a sewage leak?

NO. But I don't have any place to take them! And to top it off, kristine didn't leave her cell # so I can't inform her of this.

*Facepalm* Oy...some folks just don't think about it. Isn't there some sort of shelter in the local area that you can drop them off at?

I mean the cats can't stick around in a house with raw sewage.

looking into THAT right now...just....augh. I don't think there are any shelters in the area that would TAKE the cats without a payment up front.

If you have to pay up front simply turn around and bill your friend for it when they get back. I mean it's not like they shouldn't have realized that the cats can't stay in that house.

I'd consider it quite fair and reasonable to pass along the cost of the shelter fee to them. You certainly don't have any responsibility to be on the hook for it.

I would too, however something HAS show up. There are no cat-sitting shelters open now. Apparently they stopped taking pets sometime around 5pm. *insert drill sergeant mouth here*

Solution reached and vet talked to. If I can keep the cats away and the house ventilated, they'll be alright. So windows on the bottom floor have been cracked, the cats barricaded from the basement where the leak is happening and I'm going to have to drive in every day to do the care needed.

She is getting SO charged for this shit.

Are they indoor/outdoor cats? Or are they strictly indoor cats? And does the sewage leak put gases and other products into the outside as well?

If they're outdoor cats, can be contained and fed outdoors, and the sewer stuff isn't leaking out there to affect them, then you might be able to keep them outside for the whole time and keep them same. But Words with the person is definitely a good idea.

Strictly indoor cats, one of them is a sweet old boy.

A solution has been reached.
