The repairing holes and seams must both be qualified with "more or less, but it won't exactly be a professional job." I'm not sure there was a precise where or when; my mom taught me to use the sewing machine over the years, and she probably introduced me to a needle and thread as well, although I might have figured it out myself. Needle goes in, needle comes out. It's not that complicated.
